Objective:
This guide will summarize the details of how the printer driver works in the system.
List of Actions:
Once you open the driver in the POS you are going to see a window like in the image below.
Printer Settings:
- Printer / Port: If it is well connected, this field will show the com port of the POS used by the printer. Normally a COM port will be listed.
- Server IP/ Host name: It's the IP used by the server to run the system. Normally it's the same used in the URL of the POS (10.7.77.253 in local access). This field must be filled out so the printer can work.
- Local IP addresses: this is the local IP used by the printer driver. You will be able to check it under settings->device drivers->printers.
Or slots/stations->device drivers->printers.
- Firmware version: it's the firmware version used in the printer
- Light signal: There are three bubbles in the light signal, as shown in the image bellow:
- The first bubble is for hardware status. If there is no communication between the printer and the system, this bubble will be red. In this case, the printer cables must be checked (especially the USB one shown in How to replace a ticket printer). If it's green, then it's all good with the printer hardware and cables.
- The second bubble is dedicated to searching the printer firmware version. It's automatically done every hour, but you can click it to search right away.
- The third bubble shows if the printer is promoted in the device drivers (settings -> device drivers-> printers ->list of actions -> authorize). If even after authorizing the printer the third bubble is still red, make sure the computer is connected to the correct Wifi and also if the Server IP is filled out with the correct IP (10.7.77.253 in standard scenarios).
- Auto Startup: Once checked, the driver will run automatically when turning on the POS.
- Darker: Will increase the contrast of the printer (not often used)
Commands:
- Reset: This is a status clear command. Once you click it, you are going to see all the printer LEDs flashing;
- Clear: Like a reset, but soft clear of the errors.
- Feed: The printer will put out a blank paper to test the printer reels
- Print: Like a feed command, but will print a test ticket of $0.01,
- Setup: this is never used. It's a specific firmware to communication setup of the printer port.
- Quit: will close the driver.
